K O R O V I L A S

Last week I was lucky enough to attend the GenArt Fresh Faces in Fashion show held at Vibiana in downtown LA. Fresh Faces in Fashion is the largest showcase for up and coming designers in Los Angeles. Rodarte and Phillip Lim are just a couple of the designers that have launched into the stratosphere of fashion after getting their start at GenArt. This years show featured three designers; Shaina Mote, Crybaby Presents, and K OR O V I L A S.

The talented designers showcased their Spring/Summer 2013 lines, none of the designers disappointed all showing unique and creative pieces, but there was one line, the finale of the show, that literally blew the other designers out of the water, K O R O V I L A S.

When the K O R O V I L A S show began it was like a breathe of fresh air gliding down the runway, each piece more impressive than the next. The collection was made up of light, etherial, and feminine dresses that any woman would be lucky to have in her closet. These aren't your run of the mill dresses, small details, impeccable styling, and excellent craftsman ship really set this line apart from the others being showcased.

Granted I am a little biased as the designer Maria Korovilas along with partners Kristina Stonebreaker and Katie Bernhisel are good friends of mine. But I was not the only one loving the show, following the finale everyone was buzzing about the toasts of the evening, the girls of K O R O V I L A S.

Below are some pics of the fabulous evening and show. Sadly my good camera has seen better days so these are products of my iphone. Enjoy!

LOVE this lace white dress, the picture does not do it justice. Possible dress option for my rehearsal dinner dress :)

Meatloaf

Here we are, mid-October in Los Angeles and we are in a heat wave! Temps have been in the 80's-90's!!! Luckily last week we had a little taste of fall, the air was cool and there was even some rain and thunderstorms!

I am not here to give you a recap on the recent weather but I am here to tell you that I love fall! As soon as the temps dipped last week, we turned on the fireplace (yes there is a switch, it is gas) poured our selves some glasses of red wine, and cooked up one of my fall favorite comfort foods, meatloaf, with roasted butter nut squash on the side. So although we are back to crazy hot temps at least last week for a brief moment we had a little fall evening of our own.

Italian Meatloaf

  • 1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • 4 cloves of chopped garlic
  • 1 medium onion diced
  • 1 red bell pepper, seeded and diced
  • 1/4 cup chopped basil leaves
  • 1 tablespoon chopped italian parsley leaves
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup grated parmesan
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 1/2 punds ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • 1/2 cup marinara sauce

I think the key to good meatloaf, that isn't too tough or dry is preparing all of the ingredients first and waiting until the very end to combine them with the meat, once the meat is added using a simple folding method to combine everything and not over handling the meat should make for a delicious tender meal!

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees
First up, chop up your garlic, onion, and bell pepper

Then in a saute pan heat up 1/4 cup of olive oil and then add the garlic, saute the garlic for about a minute then add the onions and bell peppers. Saute everything until just about soft, remove from the heat and let cool.

Up next whisk together the basil, parsley, and eggs in a small bowl, then add the salt, and pepper.

Then in another small bowl combine the breadcrumbs and parmesan cheese.

Lastly in a large bowl combine the meat, herbs and eggs, parmesan and breadcrumbs, Worcestershire, vinegar, and 1 tablespoon on olive oil. This is where it gets messy, use your hands to fold in and combine all of the ingredients, be very careful as to not over mix so it does not come out too tough.

Then you will want to pack the meat mixture into an oiled loaf pan and top with the marinara sauce. If you do not have a loaf pan, don't fret you can use a sheet pan and just form the meat into a loaf shape.

Bake for about 50-60 minutes, let it cool for about 5 minutes. Pour yourself a glass of wine and serve!

For my butternut squash side dish, I simply purchased pre-cubed, packaged butter nut squash from Trader Joe's, brilliant! Sprinkled them with a little olive oil, salt pepper, and cumin, and baked according to the instructions on the package.

Dinner is served, enjoy!

Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic

This past weekend we attended the 3rd annual Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic at the Will Rogers State Park in the Pacific Palisades. This is our second year attending and popularity for this event is quickly gaining as tickets this year sold out well in advance!

It is one of my favorite day's of the year for many reasons! You get to dress up and wear a big hat, the men are dressed up and looking sharp, you are outside in the LA sunshine amongst the trees and polo fields, and best of all sipping Veuve Clicquot (my fave bubbly) all day long is strongly encouraged!

This year was a ton of fun! We kicked off the morning with brunch at a friends house then spent the entire day sipping champagne, watching polo, and of course checking out all the fun fashion at the event. I took a ton of pictures, it is hard not to, so below are my favorite images from the fun filled day!

Magnum and regular sized Veuve!

Not too easy on the wallet but a fun day regardless!

Champagne Bar!

Hipster musical entertainment

Having fun with my girls!

Kate Spade Fall Picks

I definitely consider myself as someone who dresses very much in a preppy fashion. Which is one of the reasons the majority of my wardrobe comes from J Crew. When you take the preppy route, in my opinion, you always look polished, appropriate, and put together. Even better, when you mix your preppy wardrobe staples with some of the trendy current looks you can come up with a great Modern outfit.

Kate Spade is another one of my go-to preppy shopping havens. I recently went to the kate Spade store and was able to check out some of the new fall looks that just came in. Here are a couple of my favorites, that are on my preppy shopping wish list!

Kate Spade licorice heel, I am obsessed with the polka dots!

Kate Spade skinny mini pave bow bangle I tried this one on, it is so cute and dainty.

Kate Spade Parker Dress classic dress with sleeves to keep you warm on chilly evenings.

Kate Spade Lingo heel in Christmas red, paired with a black cocktail dress and you are all set for the holiday party season!

Italy: Fashion

For our trip to Italy I kept it pretty casual as we were spending our time in sea side resort towns. No need for super fancy just casual resort wear. If you notice in the pictures a constant recurring theme, stripes, what can I say say I like stripes!

J Crew maxi dress, on sale! Many more size options in stores....

Dress: Picked up this little number last year at Express, believe it or not! Only $25!!
Linen scarf purchased while in Capri

Shopping at LV in Capri. I am one lucky gal, received this LV Palermo Purse as a birthday present!

I am not usually one to mix denim but due to a little unexpected rain I was forced to rock denim on the top and bottom, it always reminds me of Brittney Spears and Justine Timberlake's matching denim ensemble... The shoes are Nike Free tennis shoes, great for travel since they are light weight but also great for working out!

J Crew silk romper, Ray ban aviators, and a fedora, which fit in very nicely in Italy!
